Former resident Courtney (Matthews) Dixon nominated for Military Spouse of the Year award
One of our own, Courtney (Matthews) Dixon, has been nominated for the Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year award!
Courtney is a military spouse of 7 years, and was based out of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri as of 2019, when the nomination was made.
Courtney told us that she believes that she is the first person from Weston County and Newcastle to receive the honor of being nominated for Military Spouse of the Year. She is also one of a very few Wyoming natives to receive the honor.
Courtney is a former Weston County resident, NHS graduate, Saddle & Sirloin FFA Alumni, and former Elk Mountain Outlaw 4-Her, as well as a University of Wyoming graduate. Her husband, SFC Brandon Dixon, who is also from Newcastle, serves in the U.S. Army.
The Military Spouse of the Year award recognizes military spouses’ important contributions and unwavering commitment to the military community and our country. Nominations for the award are made by both the civilian and military community. There are four rounds of advancement, culminating in the announcement of the overall MSOY in our nation’s capital in early May.
The base winners will be announced on February 13, 2020 (which is the current round of voting), followed by the Top 18 nominees being announced on February 21st.
Courtney received the nomination for the AFI Military Spouse of the Year based on her philanthropic efforts and her many contributions to her military community in 2019, including being the leader of the Soldier and Family Readiness Group for her husband’s unit, serving as secretary of the MWR stable committee, and as Communications Director for Military Spouse Advocacy Network, among many other community-minded efforts. She also owns and operates a virtual second-hand shop that provides low-cost clothing for military kids.

Anyone is able to vote for Courtney, to help her advance in the base round of voting. Voting ends Friday, February 7th at 11:59 PM CST, and votes may be cast once per day per email account until that time.
We encourage you to read Courtney’s profile, it is certainly worth the time to read it! It is inspiring to hear her down-to-earth philosophy of reaching out and being a dependable and conscientious contributor to one’s community! When asked about her thoughts on supporting her community, Courtney stated, “The biggest way to support a community, is to plant seeds to help it grow. This is how I support my community.” “All acts of kindness, be them small or large, have a ripple effect that positively affect others. The more seeds we plant, the more love and support we sew”. We couldn’t agree more!
Courtney told us that she reached out to us because our small community (Newcastle) means so much to her! This fact is made very apparent in the ways in which she continues to serve her military community. While Courtney may have moved on, away from our community, we feel that she has continued to apply many of the qualities and values which we hold dear, to her new surroundings, improving her new community wherever she is planted. We of course, ask you to consider voting for Courtney Dixon. You can do so on her profile page here.
From all of us at KASL Radio, congratulations to Courtney, and to all of the other candidates, on being nominated for this tremendous honor!
All of us at home are rooting for you, Courtney!
Best of luck!
