Longhorns win Worland Invitational Tournament in Weekend Play
Worland, WY. | Newcastle, WY. – Newcastle Longhorns went undefeated, this past weekend, winning the Worland Invitational Sr Babe Ruth Tournament.
Saturday play saw the Longhorns rise to victories over the Lander Tigers and the Gillette teams to advance to the championship game.
Lander kept the game close, but still fell, 6 to 2 to Newcastle. Gillette played a close game as well in a contest that included a controversial bat throwing call against the Gillette team. The final score ended at 7 to 3 for the Longhorn victory.
On Sunday Newcastle played Gillette once again, as the Gillette team had won their way back back through the play-off brackets. This game was not close, however, as the Newcastle Longhorns held Gillette scoreless while putting up runs in every inning closing the game strong, 10 to 0, with 4 runs in the 5th inning, causing a mercy rule to end the game and secure the win. This is the second tournament championship win in a row for the Newcastle Longhorns.
The Longhorns will now travel out of the state, to participate in the Sturgis American Legion tournament. Newcastle will begin play on Friday evening at 5:00 against the Black Hills Bombers.
