Cody, WY.  –  A federal judge sentenced William Kenneth Stoner to five years of probation for shooting and killing a grizzly bear in Park County, Wyoming last year.

Stoner reportedly shot the grizzly while hunting for black bear last May. Game and Fish Department officers discovered the animal was an endangered grizzly when Stoner took the bear to be registered.

Stoner pleaded guilty to charges of killing the bear and a felon in possession of firearms charge in October, and was ordered to pay $25,000 in restitution and a $5,000 fine.
