Number of homeless still a concern in Wyoming
Casper, WY. – Figures show that Wyoming’s homeless population continues to be a concern in Wyoming.
According to a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development report released on Wednesday, there were just over 870 homeless people in living in Wyoming as of January 2017.
The data also revealed that 41 percent of those who were homeless in the state were un-sheltered, meaning they were staying in places not designed to accommodate a sleeping person.
The number of homeless people in Wyoming spiked during a two year span between 2011 and 2012, peaking that year, then later dropping. Wyoming has experienced and annual increase in homelessness since 2014, and the numbers have never dropped below the number of homeless seen prior to the 2011-2012 increase.
Thankfully, 2017 has seen a decrease in the homeless population in the state over 2016.
