Obituary for Charles Hershey

Graveside services for Charles Hershey will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2020 at Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle, WY.

Charles W. Hershey, 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 4, 2020 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, South Dakota. He was born on June 30, 1931 in Pleasant Hill, Ohio to Marley and Dora Hershey.

He was raised by his sister and her husband Genevieve and Chet Paulus. He graduated from high school in West Milton, Ohio and joined the United States Air Force.

He was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base where he met and married Carol (Knapp) Hershey on June 3, 1955. The day before he passed away, they celebrated 65 years of marriage.

He was employed with Black Hills Power & Light Co. and moved to Newcastle WY in 1970 where they raised their family and he retired after 38 years of service.

After retiring Charles enjoyed wood working, crafting, watching car races and spending time with family. He was always willing to help his family and he would repair anything he could take apart and put back together.

Charles is preceded in death by his father and mother, two infant siblings, two sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife Carol, son Randy (Theresa) Hershey, daughters DeAnn (Duke) Ottema and Connie (Darrel) Hieb. Grandchildren: Tiffany (Cody) Callaway, Crystal (Riley) Schrank, Logan Hershey (Sabrena Divis), Diane (Ty) Christensen, Duane (Lindsey) Ottema, Ryan (Kelsey) Hieb, Troy Hieb (Hannah Williams). Great-Grandchildren: Mesa and Hazley Callaway, Troy and Brady Christensen, Aiden and Avery Ottema, and arriving soon Ashtyn Hieb.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Newcastle Wyoming Veterans Memorial or First United Methodist Church and may be sent to Hershey’s at 26 Foothills Drive, Newcastle, WY 82701. Family and friends are invited for a gathering at the Newcastle Masonic Lodge following the graveside service.
