Obituary for Ellen Gail Humphrey Phifer Halbrook

GILLETTE, Wyo.   –   Ellen Gail Humphrey Phifer Halbrook, 85, born December 12, 1934, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 with her loving family by her side in Gillette, Wyoming.

Ellen is survived by daughters, Patricia Gail Ingle, Springfield, MO; Susan Phifer Rose, Gillette, WY; Della Jo Younkin and husband Bob, Gillette, WY; Tracy Pearl Phifer, Jacksonville, FL; Beverly Phifer Snyder and husband Dick, Bentonville, AR; and Sandy Finn Seitz, Springfield, MO.  She was a beloved and fun Grandma and Meemo to 11 grandchildren: Robin, Ryan, John, Jared, Bevy Kay, Samuel Earl, Delilah, Paige, Harrison, Billy, and Chrissy.

She was blessed with and cherished 21 great grandchildren: Hunter, Haleigh, Cooper, Angela, Abigail, Isabella, Sophia, Dylan, Lexi, Abbi, Maci, Ryli, Krystian, Aleigh, Isabell, Jaxon, Parker, Molly, Lucy, Jude, Ellie Mae; and great-great grandson Dawson.

She is survived by an abundance of loving nieces, nephews, and adopted family members, and her faithful pocket beagle and companion, “Pockets.” Ellen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Earl Phifer; mother and father, Blanche and Eldon Humphrey; sister, Beverly Jensen; brother, Russell Humphrey; grandson, Jared Rose; and great granddaughters Angela Nicole Eudy and Abigail Rain Eudy.

Ellen had a passion for life and loved sharing all she had with those around her.  She served for many years as an Associate and Assistant Manager for Walmart. She was “Granny” to all, and particularly her work family at Highland, Illinois, Walmart. She was an avid Cardinal baseball fan, master of card games and math whiz. During retirement in Bella Vista, AR, she shared her love and talents as a senior caretaker, and then Granny Nanny for Jake and Megan for many years. She was active in her beloved Highland Christian Church in Bella Vista and enjoyed participating with many dear friends for ministry, fun, and activities. She also enjoyed four years of retirement with family and friends in Gillette.

Ellen will be missed and forever loved by so many. She never met a stranger. She cherished several trips with daughters and granddaughters on cruises and to the beaches of the Caribbean. Stories will be shared with laughter, love and remembrance for many years to come.

Even in her final days, doctors, nurses and caretakers truly loved her wit, spunk, loving and thankful attitude toward all.  She particularly amazed them with her ability to recite the alphabet backwards!

A memorial service will be held at Parkview Apartments, Commons Area, 301 Warlow Drive, Gillette, Wyoming, on February 28, 2020 at 3:00 p.m.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be announced and held in the summer of 2020 in Arkansas.
