Obituary for Gidget (Lyon) Macke

NEWCASTLE   –  Gidget (Lyon) Macke 53, of Newcastle, passed away peacefully Tuesday October 29, 2019 due to complications of cancer.

Gidget was born July 3, 1966 in Flagstaff, Arizona to Mildred ‘Micky’ Lyon (Prell). She was the first grandchild of Vern and Iris Prell. In her early years, Gidget was raised by a single mother. Micky met and eventually married Gary Lyon. When Gidget was 8, she was adopted by Gary.

Her childhood memories include many adventures with her Uncle John (claiming she was his ‘chick magnet’), the drive-in movie theater, cheerleading, and great friendships. Family was always paramount for Gidget. An incredibly caring and compassionate person, Gidget loved taking care of and spending time with her cousins.

In 1984, Gidget graduated high school, staying in Newcastle to work as a dispatcher at the Newcastle Police Department and help run the Newcastle Country Club alongside her mother.

In 1989 Gidget met Andrew Macke, a new officer at the police department. On December 5, 1992, they married. In March of 1993 they had their first daughter, Kaitlin. In December of 1996 they had their second daughter Brooklin.

Family always came first. Her husband, daughters, and dog were the best part of Gidget’s day. If you asked where her favorite place was, she would always respond with, ‘home’. She enjoyed many

Thanksgiving and summer vacations across Nebraska, two visits to the Hawaiian islands, and many more trips to Las Vegas. An avid music lover, Gidget was ecstatic to attend many concerts in her life with friends and family.

In 2003 she converted to Catholicism. During her time in the Catholic Church, she taught CCD for many years. She found great peace and love in her religion.

After dispatching at the police department, Gidget worked for Hansen & Peck as a legal secretary, and then as the Weston County Deputy Clerk of Court. In 2014 she was elected as the Weston County Clerk of District Court.

Gidget loved her career, she spoke fondly of everyone she worked with, making close friends with many people there. As an elected official, Gidget was honored to serve her community. She was a proud Newcastle resident, living here her entire life.

This community meant so much to Gidget, her family, and her friends.

Gidget is greeted in heaven by her mother, Micky Lyon (Prell), father, Gary Lyon, grandmother Iris Prell, grandfather Vern Prell, father-in-law Mac Macke, sister-in-law Kathy Fetrow (Macke), and her dog, Festus.

Her memory is kept alive by her family; her husband Andrew, daughters Kaitlin, and Brooklin Macke, uncle John (Lynnea) Prell, cousins, Jimmy (Sheila) Prell, Amber Prell, Darcie (Sean) Crabtree, Joe (Chrissie) Prell, Allison (Chuck) Farella, sister-in-law Pamela Deaver, mother-in-law Sue Macke, and so many friends and extended family members.

On Thursday, November 7, 2019 a Wake will be held at the Newcastle Senior Senior Center at 6:00 p.m. A funeral will be held on Friday, November 8, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, a lunch will follow at the Newcastle Senior Center.

I admired Gidget because she would take time for people. I appreciate all she did--an admirable woman.
