Obituary for Jimmy “Jim” McVay
Jimmy “Jim” McVay, 68, of Newcastle, WY passed away Monday, December 11, 2017 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Jim was born December 22, 1948 in Newcastle to Louise (Hicks) McVay. He attended school in Newcastle. He was drafted in to the US Army and served during the Vietnam Conflict.
On May 28, 1970 he married his wife of 47 years, Nancy (Cole) McVay. Over the years Jim held manyjobs. He worked for the railroad, the highway department, he was an electrician, an oilfield worker, a maintenance man, and for 10 years he and his family owned J&B Archery.
Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, riding snowmobiles, motorcycles, and ATV’s. He loved archery and was part of the Cambria Bowhunters Club. He also did woodworking and enjoyed reading, later in life. His wife, children, and grandchildren were everything to him. He will be deeply missed by his lifelong friends and his Cambria Bowhunters family.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Bryan (Beth) McVay; daughter, Christy (Marty) Allen; grandchildren, Dalton McVay, Bethany McVay, Olivia McVay, Gabrielle McVay, Colin McVay, Garrett Allen, and Jenna Allen; numerous nieces and nephews; he also had numerous “adopted children.”
Jim is preceded in death by his mom, Louise; sister, Mildred Scott; brother, Robert McVay; and his best friend, Lance Borden.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
