Prosecutors Clear Casper Officers Involved in May Shootout

Casper, WY.    –     Prosecutors have cleared two Casper Police Officers who were involved in a May 6th shooting incident, which left the suspect dead and one of the officers injured.

Officer Jacob Carlson and Officer Randi Garrett were dispatched to a vehicle complaint on the afternoon of May 6th, when the routine encounter quickly turned deadly. The suspect, David P. Wolosin, drew a weapon and fired on the officers, Officer Carlson was shot multiple times, and Wolsin was killed in the shootout.

On Monday, Natrona County District Attorney Michael Blonigen issued a letter, stating that the actions of the officers were justified,
detailing that Carlson and Garrett “reacted in a commendable and appropriate way to protect themselves from a deadly and unprovoked assault upon them.”

The letter also stated that while a “concrete motive” for Wolosin’s actions could not be determined, the suspect indeed fired first at the officers.
