Rapid City Arena’s Design Planning Moves Forward

RAPID CITY, SD. — The planning and design of Rapid City’s new $130 million arena are beginning to take shape.

Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Executive Director Craig Baltzer tells the Rapid City Journal that city planners are completing final vetting of the new entertainment arena’s design options. The civic center’s arena is expected to open in 2021.

Baltzer says project planners are trying to finalize the building’s design so that they can receive cost estimates before inking blueprints.

Rapid City and Black Hills residents will soon have an opportunity to weigh in on design plans. The city has been accepting applications for two committees to offer input on arena operation and design issues.

Baltzer says the goal is to solicit ideas from diverse group of people so that the building is representative of the region.
