Aug 6th Fatal Crashes:
At 3:03 p.m. Monday, at the intersection of North Rochford Road and Old Salt Road, 12 miles south of Lead: A motorcycle was southbound on North Rochford Road when the driver failed to negotiate a right curve. The motorcycle crossed the center line, slid into the ditch and the driver was thrown from the motorcycle. The 29-year-old male driver was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Aug 6th Injury Crashes:
At 9:35 a.m., Monday Interstate 90, mile marker 15, one mile east of Spearfish: A motorcycle was westbound in the driving lane when the rear tire blew out, causing the driver to lose control. The male driver, 50, was thrown from the motorcycle. He was wearing a helmet and received minor injuries. The driving lane of that area of I-90 was closed for 45 minutes.
At 4:20 p.m. Monday, Interstate 90, mile marker 61, eastbound on ramp, Rapid City: A 2017 Nissan Versa was entering traffic on the eastbound on ramp when it was rear-ended by a 2005 Buick LeSabre. The 28-year-old female driver of the Nissan received minor injuries. The Buick’s driver, a 44-year-old female, was not injured. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
At 4:43 p.m., Monday, South Dakota Highway 79, nine miles north of Sturgis: Two motorcycles were northbound when both tried to pass a third motorcycle going at slower speed. As the first two motorcycles were passing, the third motorcycle turned left colliding with the first two motorcycles. The 48-year-old male driver of the first motorcycles sustained minor injuries. He was not wearing a helmet. The male driver of the second vehicle, 53, suffered serious non-life threatening injuries while the female passenger, 53, had minor injuries. Neither one was wearing a helmet. The male driver of the third motorcycle, 48, had serious non-life threatening injuries while the female passenger, 18, sustained minor injuries. Helmet use of the two occupants on the third motorcycle was not listed.
Aug 7th Injury Crashes:
At 11 a.m., Tuesday, U.S. Highway 14A, mile marker 15, three miles south of Spearfish: A motorcycle was southbound through Spearfish Canyon when the driver lost control going through a right curve. The motorcycle went across the center line and struck the rear of a motorcycle trike. All three occupants were thrown from their vehicles. All suffered serious non-life threatening injuries and none were wearing helmets. The driver of the motorcycle was a female, 61. The two occupants on the trike were the male driver, 67, and a female passenger, 54.
At 12:15 p.m., Tuesday, Interstate 90, mile marker 59, in Rapid City: A motorcycle was westbound on the I-90 exit 59, westbound on-ramp when a passenger car slowed down and stopped in front of the motorcycle. The motorcycle driver lost control of the motorcycle when he had to abruptly stop. The male driver, 62, suffered minor injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.
At 1:20 p.m., Tuesday, U.S. Highway 14A, mile marker 31, six miles west of Lead: A motorcycle was westbound on U.S. Highway 14A when the driver failed to negotiate a curve and crossed the centerline into the path of an eastbound motorcycle. The two occupants of the eastbound motorcycle – the 57-year-old male driver and the 53-year-old female passenger – both suffered minor injuries. Both were wearing helmets. The 59-year-old male driver of the westbound motorcycle suffered life-threatening injuries. He was wearing a helmet.
At 3 p.m., Tuesday, U.S. Highway 85, mile marker 36, 6 ½ miles east of Spearfish: A motorcycle was southbound on U.S. Highway 85, when a 2019 Subaru Forester attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Highway 85 from East Colorado Boulevard. The motorcycle collided with the vehicle. Both motorcycle occupants were thrown from the motorcycle. The male driver, 51, suffered life-threatening injuries. The 51-year-old female passenger suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. Helmet use is under investigation. The 82-year-old male driver of the vehicle was not injured. He was wearing a seatbelt.
At 4:20 p.m., Tuesday, U.S. Highway 16, mile marker 34, six miles north of Custer; a motorcycle was passing a vehicle on the right when the motorcycle traveled too far to the right and entered the ditch. The male driver, 41, lost control and was thrown from the motorcycle. He suffered minor injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.
At 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, South Dakota Highway 244, mile marker 32, five miles west of Keystone: A motorcycle attempted to avoid a motor home that was making a left-hand turn. The two occupants were thrown from the motorcycle and both suffered minor injuries. The male driver was 47 and the female passenger was 49. They were not wearing helmets. The 37-year-old male driver of the motorhome was not injured. He was wearing a seatbelt.
At 9:18 p.m., Tuesday, South Dakota Highway 79, mile marker 111, three miles east of Sturgis: A motorcycle traveling on SD Highway 34 failed to properly negotiate a turn north onto SD Highway 79. The driver lost control of the motorcycle. The male driver, 66, suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. He was not wearing a helmet. The 14-year-old male passenger sustained minor injuries. He was wearing a helmet.
