Update on Hot Springs’ Vineyard Fire
Hot Springs, SD. – The Vineyard Fire burning near Hot Springs was last estimated at 560 acres as of Tuesday morning. The current containment has been updated to 55 percent. The fire started at around 4 p.m. on Saturday night, approximately 1 mile east of Hot Springs on Highway 18, and grew quickly.
No injuries have occurred with this fire and no structures have been lost, all pre-evacuations have also been lifted.
Fire crews continue to take advantage of cooler temperatures and higher humidity, building containment lines using dozers, hand crews, and engines. Ground resources will use air support when needed. Hard work and increasing containment has resulted in decreasing incident complexity, meaning that the Type-2 Incident Management team is no longer needed, and a Type-3 organization will continue to manage the Vineyard Fire.
Fire danger is listed at very high throughout the Black Hills as of Tuesday, August 14th. Please be cautious as fires can start easily and spread rapidly in these conditions.
