Vineyard Fire Outside Hot Springs, SD Grows to 468 Acres, Forced Temporary Evacuations

Hot Springs, SD.   –    The Vineyard Fire burning near Highway 18 near Hot Springs, was last estimated at 486 acres as of early Monday morning. The fire began at around 4 p.m. on Saturday night, approximately 1 mile east of Hot Springs on Highway 18. The blaze grew from 180 acres to around 250 acres by 2 p.m. Sunday.

Fire officials did issue both a pre-evacuation notice, and eventually a full mandatory evacuation, for homes on the east side of Hot Springs. By 7:00 p.m. all mandatory evacuation notices were lifted.

The Vineyard fire didn’t see much growth overnight into Monday, but a Type 2 team has been called to take command on the fire.

Firefighters will focus on continuing to build containment lines throughout the day on Monday.

As of last check the Vineyard Fire is only 5 percent contained.
