Fatal Car, Fuel Truck Crash Kills 73 Year-old Woman West of Custer
Custer, SD. – A fatal crash involving a car and a fuel truck in Custer County, SD has killed the driver of the car. The Highway Patrol says the 2018 Hyundai Elantra, driven by a 73-year-old woman, was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 16 and traveling on the shoulder of the westbound side. A westbound 2000 Peterbilt Conventional 379 fuel truck attempted to avoid the car, but the two vehicles collided.
The accident occoured at around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening, about 23 miles west of Custer. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the deceased is not being released pending notification of family.
The The 66-year-old truck driver only suffered minor injuries.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
