Fire crews responding to wildfire near Keystone
UPDATED: 3/30/21 8:20 A.M.
KEYSTONE, SD. – As of 4:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon, fire crews continued to fight the 244 Fire, 1.5 miles southwest of Keystone, SD. The fire was estimated at 75 acres. More resources have been ordered and are en-route.
The fire is burning in heavy dead and downed timber with very high potential for spread due to very high winds. Cause of the fire is unknown.
Mount Rushmore National Memorial and roads leading into the Memorial are closed until further notice.
The road is also closed at Pennington & Custer County line off 16A (seasonal gates), north of Lakota Lake on Iron Mountain Road.
Fire officials again ask the public to stay out of the area for public and firefighter safety.
