Judge to Review Records in Wyoming Media, University Lawsuit

LARAMIE, WY. (AP) — A Wyoming county district judge has announced plans to review documents related to the departure of a former university president potentially bringing a resolution.

The Casper Star-Tribune reported that the initial Tuesday hearing set a Friday deadline for the University of Wyoming to hand over documents for review to District Judge Tori Kricken so she could decide whether to release them to the public.

Officials say a public records lawsuit was filed months ago by multiple news organizations seeking details about former President Laurie Nichols saying the administration withheld files.

University officials say they did not violate the law.

The judge says the decision is contingent on whether withholding records conflicts with the public’s right to know or whether the release of records constitutes an invasion of privacy.
