Private prison company wants immigration detention center in Southwest WY
Evanston, WY. — A Utah-based private prison company, Management & Training Corporation, recently presented a proposal to construct an immigration detention center that would house close to 600 detainees, before both Uinta County and Evanston city officials.
The detainees would come from the Salt Lake City office of the U.S. Department of Immigration and Custom Enforcement, which oversees a five-state area, covering Utah, Nevada, Idaho and Montana.
Those who support the project locally say that the center would provide jobs and revenue, but opponents of the project cite Management & Training Corporation’s on-going legal disputes as a sign that the company has issues in how they operate their facilities.
