Residences Evacuated Due to Britania Mountain Fire in Southeast, Wyoming
Wheatland, WY. (AP) – More than 50 residences in southeast Wyoming have been ordered evacuated because of a wildfire burning west of Wheatland.
KTWO-AM in Casper reports that the evacuation area includes areas of both Albany and Platte counties.
In Platte County, Emergency Management Coordinator Terry Stevenson said the evacuation affects about 10 residences. In Albany County, Emergency Management Coordinator Aimee Binning says 44 residences are affected.
The Red Cross has set up an evacuation center in Wheatland.
Authorities say Rural Electrification Administration service to the area has been cut off.
The fire has burned about 31 square miles (80.3 square kilometers) since it started last weekend. It is about 23 percent contained.
Officials say several primary structures and a number of outbuildings have likely been destroyed by the fire.
