Sexual Battery Reports Drop at Casper Schools

CASPER, WY. (AP) — Police say the number of sexual battery reports at Casper-area middle and high schools has significantly dropped after officials alerted parents to a “game” targeting female students.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports the Natrona County School District notified parents last month that male students were daring each other to inappropriately touch female classmates, leading to about 15 reports of sexual battery.

Casper Police Sgt. Scott Jones says he now believes there were fewer than 15 victims after investigating the reports.

He says it’s likely some reports weren’t related to the game or some didn’t actually happen.

He says the number dwindled after police began issuing citations and making arrests.

District spokeswoman Tanya Southerland says officers have explained to students the significance of such actions and how students could report the behavior.
